Toulouse to Sète

This 8-day tour covers all of the canal's greatest highlights. Starting in Toulouse, you reach the canal's highest point at Naurouze before cycling to Castelnaudary, Carcassonne, Homps and Narbonne. The final stretch takes you past the Malpas Tunnel and Nine Locks of Béziers, finishing on the spectacular beach-path into Sète. Luggage is transferred hotel to hotel each day.

Day 1 · Arrival
Arrival in Toulouse

Arrive in Toulouse and explore the historic centre of the Pink City. Meet our team who will brief you on your tour and hand over your equipment.

Toulouse → Castelnaudary

Start cycling along the Canal du Midi towpath. Reach the continental divide at Naurouze — the canal's highest point — where the Rigole feeds water from the Black Mountains. Finish in Castelnaudary, famous for cassoulet.

After breakfast bikes are delivered and fitted at your hotel, roadbook explained.

Try cassoulet for dinner — you've earned it after 62 km.

Castelnaudary → Carcassonne

Cycle through sunflower fields to Carcassonne. Visit Bram's archaeological museum just off the towpath.

Explore the Cité in the morning, then join the canal. Easy, peaceful cycling past vineyards and ancient plane trees.

Pass through Le Somail for lunch. Continue along the Canal de la Jonction and Canal de la Robine into Narbonne, visiting the Amphoralis Museum on the way.

Return to the Canal du Midi via county roads. Visit the Malpas Tunnel and the Nine Locks of Fonseranes before crossing the Orb aqueduct into Béziers.

Follow the towpath south from Béziers. Flamingos near Portiragnes, optional visit to Marseillan harbour, then a spectacular beach-path finish into Sète.

Swim from the beach on the final stretch — it's perfect for it.
